Dr. Hughes is a 45-year veteran of the computer industry and academia. He is Professor of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, and of Digital Media. He is the Graduate program Coordinator for Computer Science and is the Media Convergence Laboratory's Director and Chief Scientist. His research interests are in mixed and virtual reality, computer graphics, distributed computing, and theoretical computer science. He has authored or co-authored over 140 research papers and has been PI or co-PI on over $5M in federally funded grants in the last five years. His most recent research is being applied to teacher training, soldier training, situation awareness, cognitive rehabilitation, decision making in complex terrain, and free-choice learning.
