Recently I have been regularly visiting the nature parks in my area. Taking my camera with me and photographing as I go, I was surprised to find myself not only enjoying what I was doing at the parks but being a little less anxious in situations outside of nature that would normally be very stressful for me. I began to think of the walks as a form of therapy. I felt there was some sort of exchange happening. I was in the tranquility of nature and it was somehow helping me remain calm and deal with the people and problems around me.

I believe photos of nature shouldn’t be simply nice or pretty. Like most photos they should evoke some kind of emotion. The main emotion in these photos is solitude. Solitude is not a bad sort of alone, it’s the kind you seek when things begin to overwhelm you. An emotion that is felt when you wander in nature and can only hear the wind in the trees. Thinking back on my time in nature when I am starting to feel the pain of anxiety has assisted me with dealing with those feelings and overcoming them. I want to express the calm and solitude that I felt while immersing myself in nature.
