Whovians, Potterheads, Twihards, and Trekkies- these are terms used to refer to groups of people who are fans of certain television shows, movies, and books. These people are known as a 'fandom'; a subculture of fans who connect with each other at various conventions, online, or other ways, through a common interest. The stories told in these media touch fans in a huge way, whether it's because of a personal connection, empathy for the characters, or because they want to live in that world. Their passion is what leads them to new friends and experiences, making the fictional world the perfect escape from their normal routine.

Whether it's collecting every piece of Harry Potter merchandise they can find, spending weeks sewing that perfect costume for the next convention, or finding every bit of information they can, there's a way for everyone to feel involved. In this project, we look at how people interact with the world around them, whether it's at home, or at a major convention, and why someone would want to 'boldly go where no man has gone before', or take a train to a magical school.
