In this project I photograph children playing with their favorite toys. I sit back as they play. They sit alone. I talk to them and I wait. I wait for them to stop the performance that they have been conditioned to give. I wait for the smiles to fade. I wait for the jumping to stop. I wait for that moment when they almost seem detached. It is in this moment that I see complications of adult life cross their face. It is as if the adult world comes crashing into their childhood. The mannerisms change yet they cling to their toys as if they are clinging onto childhood itself. This moment is filled with unsaid emotions of reflection, awkwardness, and contemplation.
