  • Bio:

    Jon Friskics is an instructor in the School of Visual Arts and design with 10+ years of combined teaching and industry experience. Since 2003, he has taught in the Music, Film, and Digital Media degree programs at the University of Central Florida. His expertise ranges from sound design to mobile application development, and he regularly teaches courses in client and server-side web development and a variety of other digital media production mediums.

    He tried blogging, but a lack of time and focus led him to Twitter as a public way to express himself socially. His tweets can be found and followed @jonfriskicsucf. Sandwich posts are kept to a minimum.

    Co-PI on a $10,000 grant (PI: Phil Peters) to develop a live wireless video streaming solution for the NPS Canaveral National Seashore.

    Co-PI on a $200,000 award (PI: Dr. Rudy McDaniel, Co-PI: Dr. Robb Lindgren) over three years to develop a non-linear 'choose your own adventure'-style course to engage students in large online classes.

    2011 Information Fluency Conference

    Invited to present "Research on Narrative and Student Choice as Means to Promote Information Fluency in an Online Course" with Dr. Rudy McDaniel and Dr. Robb Lindgren. The presentation reported findings from running Adventures in Emerging Media, a fully online 'choose your own adventure' type course in Fall 2010. The course is supported by the Provost's Undergraduate Education Pilot Program grant.

    Exploring iPhone App Development with Titanium Mobile

    Workshop delivered to students of all ages at the Otronicon 2012 Convention at the Orlando Science Center. I delivered two workshops - one at 12:30pm on 01/14/12 and another at 12:30pm on 01/15/12. Students attending the workshop learned how to set up a basic iOS app with tabs, tables, labels, and images, using the Titanium Mobile framework.
